A most recent email from Egypt to those in the States...

Dear Friends and Family,

I just wanted to let you in on some exciting (well for me at least) news... I am back in Egypt!  The Fulbright Commission has recently extended an invitation for us to return to our homes, friends, and lives here in Egypt in order to pick up where we left off in February.

I traveled with my friend, Eric, from the Fulbright ETA program and we arrived safely without any complications Tuesday night.  My boss arranged for a private car to deliver us safely to my apartment in Alexandria where she left us a warm dinner and a beautiful flower bouquet (those were for me, not Eric).  She stopped by with her daughter for a round of tearful hugs to welcome me home.

Yesterday, Eric and I walked around the city as we ran some errands to get settled back in.  There are Egyptian flags painted everywhere and pictures will be posted in the next day or so on my blog (www.egyptianimmersion.blogspot.com).  I have been beaming since landing in Cairo and although my Arabic is rusty, it feels so great to be back.  Things seem to be very normal, as far as we can tell.

We had lunch with my teammate Sara and she said the basketball team cannot wait for my return!  We also met some of our other Egyptian friends for coffee later in the evening.  They were so happy to have us back!  They also told us about how great it was for them to have the opportunity to vote over the referendum this past weekend.  Although most of them voted against it, they were ecstatic to be able to voice their opinion.

Also, I met my apartment owner last night to settle business.  He and his wife brought me a box of delicious sweets (the last thing I need now that I am not going to gym everyday-- Oh how I will miss LAC!), but it was such a pleasant surprise.  They too were very excited to welcome me back.

Ultimately, I feel very blessed to have people who care about me both here in Egypt, and back at home.

For the next few months I plan on sending out this sort of email update so you know a little about what's going on with me.  Feel free to check my blog for more detailed stories (which I will try to keep updated).

Also, please email me with any questions or concerns you have about my return.  My parents and I prayed for a long time about me returning, and we felt God saying it was time to get back, especially now with the Fulbright's decision to resume our grants.  More practically, I will resume 8 hours/week Arabic classes this coming Sunday, which is the main reason I felt it necessary to return.

Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers, and I look forward to hearing from you.
